Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Xi'an to Chengdu by Rail

Board a second-class D-train at Xi'an North (approx. 4 hours). On arrival at Chengdu East our guide meets you and transfers you to the hotel. Afternoon free - we recommend the Kuanzhai Alleys or Chunxi Road. Meals on your own. Overnight: Chengdu.

Day 2

Giant Panda Breeding Base, Dujiangyan Irrigation System

Early entry to the Giant Panda Breeding Base (approx. 1.5 hours) when pandas are most active, among the enclosures, nursery and red-panda section. Continue to Dujiangyan (approx. 2.5 hours): walk the Anlan Suspension Bridge across the Min River and see the Fish Head levee, Flying Sand Weir and Bottle-Neck Channel - the 2,280-year-old engineering that still waters the Chengdu Plain. Optional: Li Bing shadow-play theatre (RMB 50) and Yulei Pavilion escalator (RMB 40). One included meal today. Overnight: Chengdu.

Day 3

Chengdu to Xi'an by Rail

Free morning (breakfast included), then transfer to Chengdu East for the D-train back to Xi'an. Tour ends on arrival.

When are the pandas most active? ＋
Before 10:30, which is why the itinerary enters at opening time. In summer heat pandas move indoors to air-conditioned rooms; the indoor viewing areas are excellent.
Is the Dujiangyan walk demanding? ＋
Moderate: stone paths and the slightly swaying Anlan Suspension Bridge, roughly 4-5 km on foot during the day. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
How does rail boarding work? ＋
Arrive 45 minutes early; your passport is your ticket on Chinese trains. The guide escorts the group and confirms carriages.
I am travelling alone. Will I share a room? ＋
No. We never pair strangers; solo travellers pay the single supplement of $160 USD / EUR 145.
Can I use Google and WhatsApp in China? ＋
They are blocked on local connections. Use a roaming eSIM or install a VPN before arrival - VPN apps cannot be downloaded inside China.
